Meet Sherlyn, one of our psychologists

M A (Psych), BSc (Appl Psych), Dip. Appl Psych, Psychologist

While doing my degree, I had the opportunity to intern at a special needs school. It was from there that I discovered my passion for working with children. I enjoyed it so much that i stayed on even after my internship officially ended. Seeing how each child was so special and unique in their own ways, with varying interests and abilities made me realize that every individual required a different approach.

From there I went on to complete my Masters in Psychology at Bangor University, UK. When I returned, I took on more internship positions, in a Mental Health Institute and at a private Child Development Clinic. During my internship at the private Child Development Clinic, I had the opportunity to work together with a multidisciplinary team consisting of Paediatricians, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists. Through that I gained more insights and knowledge to the role each of these professionals play, and how the team comes together to fulfill the needs of a child.

After my internships, I went on to work briefly at a private inclusion pre-school setting. I am very glad to have found my way to Children's Partnership. I am motivated to continue learning and training, to be able to do all I can for every child and family that I work with.

Together with the team, it will be my privilege and pleasure to go on this journey with you.

Meet Hong Yin, one of our psychologists

M. A. Development Psych, Developmental Psychologist

"Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same."

Franz Peter Schubert

I started working with children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities at a VWO in 2003. I was fresh out of college, having just attained my Masters in Developmental Psychology & was proverbially bright-eyes and bushy-tailed. I took the job thinking, like most people do for their first jobs - that I would try to 'stick it out' for a year or two for the experience. Well, the experience must have been mind-blowing because I 'stuck it out' for 8 years! In the time I was there, I would like to believe that I have helped these children and their families through the course of my work.

However, it is probably more accurate to say that these children and their families have taught me a lot more: to open my eyes, to see what they see, to feel what they feel & to pull through tough times together. In 2011, however, I made a decision to spend more time with my 2 young boys. I left the organisation with many tears, but also with many fond memories. With these memorable experiences in my heart, I have found my way to Children's Partnership. I hope I will be able to receive more footprints from the children and their families that I can get to help and serve.

I graduated from the University of Sydney with a degree in Psychology. I worked briefly at a counselling centre before deciding to pursue my studies further. In 2003 I attained a Masters in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. When I returned to Singapore, I started working at a special school with over 300 students, and a multi-disciplinary Allied Health Professional team. During my time there, I conducted intellectual and behavioural assessments for the children, evaluated their progress with the teachers & designed behavioural intervention programmes with the parents.

I'm keen to learn more to better the lives of the children that I work with. I have received training in various approaches such as HANDLE, a play based treatment of trauma.

I hope that I will continue to learn and find out more about better ways to help the special needs population. It would be a pleasure to meet you and have you leave some footprints in my heart.

Meet Genevieve, one of our psychologists

Hi there,

Working with families in order to guide a child to reach his fullest potential has been a long held belief of mine. Children’s Partnership was set up in 2005 with the intent of working together with families. Over the years, it has been a privilege to work with each and every family as we work towards guiding each child in their journey through life. I have also been blessed with a team of incredibly talented and dedicated consultants who are passionate about the work they do with the families.

From a professional standpoint, I graduated from Murdoch University with a degree in Psychology. I worked in a special school, where I got to learn about the gifts of each child I taught as I guided them through dance, swimming and job placements, in addition to the day to day academics. During this time, I earned a master’s degree in Applied Psychology and started a new phase in my work life where I was involved in the assessment and diagnosis of children at a local hospital. In my time there, I received training in various intervention programmes (PECS, Structured Teaching, MISC approach) and helped to initiate various intervention programmes. I was and still am continually looking to improve the lives of the children I work with, which led to my becoming an RDI® Program Certified Consultant.

As an RDI® Program Certified Supervisor, I have had the privilege to guide Consultants-In-Training from countries such as, China, Hong Kong, India and Taiwan. I have also enjoyed working as an associate trainer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic guiding teachers who were keen to learn more about students living with special needs.

Over the years, I have continued to receive training and study with the goal of improving the lives of the children and families I work with. In particular, the area of neurodevelopment is a keen interest of mine. I have received training in various approaches (HANDLE, Rhythmic Movement Training, Play based treatment of trauma).”

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my daughter. I have been incredibly fortunate to have my parents watch over her when I am at work.

If you decide to invite us to take this journey with you, I believe you will find it an empowering and hopeful experience.
